Dicentra Spectabilis gets its common name from its heart-shaped pink flowers that hang on long, arching stems. Below the heart shape, there's a protruding white petal resembling a drop. It is said that the Lamprocapnos flower symbolizes unrequited or rejected love, as well as love and romance in general.

Dicentra Spectabilis are shade-loving woodland plants that bloom in the cool spring. After several weeks of blooming, the plants often become ephemeral and disappear for the rest of the summer if exposed to too much sun or heat. However, the roots remain alive and regrow every year—either in the fall or the following spring.

The plant ranges in size from about 30 cm to 90 cm in height, with a similar width. It has a moderate growth rate and reaches its full size in around 60 days.
